OSCAR (One Smart Car, an Autonomous Robot) is am Anthrax and heat detecting robot
that uses 4 IR's for obstacle avoidance, 3 CdS cells to find the brightest
spot in the room, 1 smoke detector to ionize the electrically neutral anthrax
and detect that ionized air, and a heat detector to find anthrax incubators. 
OSCAR uses the "Shifter" from Radio Shack as its platform to make it a challenging
but fun robot.
